Olney Days 2017
9th Annual Rock The Lot Block Party
Benefitting Project Change

What is the
Rock The Lot Block Party?

It’s an annual family-friendly street festival fundraiser that concludes the weekend's Olney Days festivities. Performances by the region’s best bands and local talent, a craft beer and wine garden benefitting the Olney Civic Fund, food truck rally, and carnival activities attract upwards of 2000 area residents of all ages. We shut down Hillcrest Avenue behind Home Goods and Shopper’s Food Warehouse, erect a huge stage at one end, and a climbing wall at the other, and invite the community's businesses and organizations to set up and help us throw a party! This year is the 8th time we’ve put on this event. Proceeds benefit Project Change.

What is Olney Days?
www.olneydays.com

Every year (since 1978) Olney celebrates community spirit at various venues throughout the town with a weekend’s worth of events aimed at gathering families for fun, and to benefit the people who call Olney, home. The events are put on by volunteers belonging to Olney’s homeowners associations, local non-profit and faith-based organizations, and local businesses, in partnership with the Greater Olney Civic Association (GOCA) and Olney Civic Fund. Many of the events are geared towards raising funds for hometown grass-roots organizations like the Joe Sanford Foundation, The Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, and Project Change, to name a few.

What is Project Change?
www.projectchange‐md.org

Project Change is a youth/adult partnership 501(c)3 non-profit organization (Tax ID# 04-3649724) dedicated to promoting positive youth development through leadership, meaningful community service, the performing arts, and safe social activities. It serves as a model for youth-empowered community improvement and believes that giving back is a civic responsibility. Its programs include Youth Empowered Service Clubs at middle and high schools, the You Have the Power! Bullying Prevention Peer Education Project, the Student Leadership Institute, the Team of Stars Summer Camp and After-School Program, as well as the Teen Coffeehouse (a collaboration with the Sandy Spring Museum and the Montgomery County Council of PTA’s). Students sit on the Board of Directors with full voting rights. Their service fulfills the foundational principle of Project Change – that the voice of youth be the driving force behind this organization.

What is the Olney Civic Fund?

The Olney Civic Fund (OCF) was established in June, 2013 with the support of the Greater Olney Civic Association (GOCA). OCF’s mission is to raise public awareness of Olney charitable, educational, civic, and cultural activities and to raise funds to support Olney charitable projects and civic events through the involvement of volunteers and business sponsors. "Give Where You Live"

Why should I participate?

This the only event in town that combines a street festival party atmosphere with an opportunity for local businesses, non-profits and organizations to make meaningful contact with the community we serve, promoting your products and services in a relaxed, fun way to a diverse and captive audience. Your $250 or more sponsor donation goes 100% to Project Change, Olney’s own award-winning homegrown youth organization, whose mission is to teach teens the value and importance of civic engagement and community involvement.

How can I participate?

To be a part of the Rock The Lot Block Party, we need your financial support. Funds collected are tax-deductible donations which go toward covering costs of putting on the event, plus supporting the operating budget for upcoming Project Change programs and events for Montgomery County youth. Participants will have full coverage (logo & information where applicable) on all associated marketing and promotional materials. In general, these include the event, producers’ web sites, available social marketing, fliers and posters, etc.
